The screening of the movie “Her Job ” has been concluded with success, on the 19th of June 2019 at the French Institute of Athens.
A group of volunteers from the the ESTIA* project as well as volunteers from the employees of Nostos with an arabic descent worked together in order to translate the subtitles of the the movie “Her Job” in Arabic.
The whole process took a few months and the movie instigated very interesting conversations.
The movies is about Panayiota a woman just before her 40th birthday an almost illiterate housewife and mother of two, finds herself looking for a job for the first time, in order to provide for her family. Hired by a contractor as a cleaning lady at a large department store she will face work exploitation and depreciation but also an unprecedented feeling of economic and sentimental independence. Whatever happens next she cannot be the same anymore…
The subtitles were prepared and the director and the production of the movie gave us the oppourtunity to screen it for arab speakers. A unique opportunity for arab speakers to enjoy a modern greek film.
The ladies responsible for the subtitles organised the screening event and the whole project is part of the SIMRA program (Supporting the Integration of Migrant Women, Refugees and Asylum Seekers) that is funded by the AMIF-2016-AG-INTE of the E.U.
Director Nikos Labot, lead actress Marisha Triandafillidou and young Danae Primali were there to honour the effort and share their views in a short discussion with the audience. The discussion that followed was interesting and moving.
We want to thank the director and the whole team of “Her Job” that believed in our crazy idea and gave us the opportunity to make it happen!
